

The entire northren Lordaeron was consumed by the undead and the plague was spreading fiercely. With the Cult of the Damned and Kel'Thuzad's preparations, they launched the assault on Azeroth. The following events can be experienced in Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and the expansion, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne. Meanwhile, Ner'zhul, aware of Kil'jaeden's schemes, secretly sought a way out of his prison. Kel'Thuzad formed the Cult of the Damned, and together with the dreadlord Mal'Ganis, he began the final preparations for the invasion to come. Kel'Thuzad answered his call, and he was then enslaved by the Lich King. The Lich King used his telepathy in hope to get in contact with any dark soul in Azeroth. The Lich King tried to experiment with his powers from within the Frozen Throne, he enslaved the local life forms, the creation of the undeath plague, which transformed everything into undead who obeyed his commands.Īfter gaining enough power, the dreadlords ordered the Lich King to commence the promised plan. The demon lords sent dreadlords to make sure that the Lich King did what he was tasked to do. The Lich King needed an army, and therefore started to create an undead army, the Scourge. Ner'zhul was still alive, and the Lich King was created.īirth of the Scourge The Lich King was tasked with a job of weakening the world in preparation for the Burning Legion. Kil'jaeden destroyed his body, but left his spirit alive, of which he imprisoned in a block of ice. Bolvar Fordragon / Ner'zhul - It is unknown if Bolvar is truly in control, or if he is battling the spirit of Ner'zhul as Arthas did.īackstory The Beginning Kil'jaeden the Deciever, creator of the Lich King The orchish shaman Ner'zhul once tried to escape Draenor, but he didn't succeed because the demon lord Kil'jaeden stopped him.Ner'zhul/ Arthas Menethil - Conjoined spirits.Years later, and with the destruction of Frostmourne and the death of Arthas, Bolvar Fordragon took the powers of the Lich King, resulting in the Lich King becoming imprisoned within the Frozen Throne once more. However, the soul of Ner'zhul is still trapped within the armor. Arthas became the dominant personality of the being. By putting on the Lich King's armor, the trapped soul of Ner'zhul battled with Arthas' mind for control of the mind. Arthas became possessed by the blade and was ordered to the Frozen Throne itself, where Arthas and the Lich King would merge to one.

He cast his runeblade, Frostmourne, from the Frozen Throne, with the intention of luring Arthas Menethil to the blade. However, he became trapped within the Frozen Throne. The soul of the orcish shaman Ner'zhul was used by Kil'jaeden to create the Lich King, whom was tasked to raise an army fit for The Bruning Legion to conquer Azeroth.
